NOTE: You do not have to have a huge number of pastels for these classes. This is more about getting started. Recommended brands: Rembrandt, Sennelier, even Nupastels which are considered hard pastels. A small beginners set is fine. Since it is landscape some greens and blues are recommended in your mix. This time last year, my sweet husband and I stood on a ledge overlooking a river of churning rapids. Not literally, but when reviewing our choices, that’s what it felt like. Should we close the antique store that had occupied one side of our lovely vintage downtown building in Redding? Or, should we step, well, more like plunge, into potentially perilously deep water? Would we float or sink?
We’d never been in the retail business, and we didn’t know much about antiques, but we did know about business. We’ve started several…some failed, others muddled along and a few proved to be amazingly profitable. So, hand in hand, we jumped…committing to keeping the delightful antique store afloat.
We started with 10 dealers…and lots of uncertainty.
One year later, we have a full house…with 60 dealers and a beautiful new O Street Gallery that has been embraced by the art community! It’s been an amazing year! We are most grateful to our original 10 dealers who stuck with us, the new dealers who signed up with us and the Redding community and beyond, for their continued support. THANK YOU!!
Throughout the month of April…our official first month of operation…we’ll be having specials to celebrate! Free Teapot Banks with a purchase, treasure hunts, drawings, and of course, sales in many booths.
We hope you’ll stop by and celebrate with us! Thank you for your business!
Phil and Kate

O Street Gallery Grand Opening
Friday night, October 17th was an amazing evening upstairs at the Oregon Street Antique Mall. The community gathered to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new O Street Gallery in Redding, California! Local musician, Bernie Baker entertained. Folks feasted on tasty treats prepared by Doni Chamberlain of anewscafe.com and Chris Carter. And guests enjoyed wine supplied by the Moseley Family Cellars.
Curated by Shelly Shively, on display are pieces by some of the finest artists in the North State: Gary Thomas, Chuck Prudhomme, Stephanie Luke, Stacey Arcangel, Delainie Laing, Michael Haley, Nanci Sackett, Jan Scanlin, Mollie Flack, Dottie Turk, Sandy Tincher, Ana Fuentes, Gwen and Gene Knaebel, Michelle Sparks and John Stewart.
(Some of the artists were not present for the photo).
Art is available for purchase and plans are in the works for offering classes open to the public.
The current exhibit runs through the first week in December. Artists participate on a two-month rotating schedule.
For information on exhibiting at O Street Gallery, email Shively at firstname.lastname@example.org. For further information on upcoming

Our beautiful antique store has been burglarized twice. Both times within a two-week span.
These are photos of the first hit…
A tsunami of crime has flooded our city. It’s everywhere. No area in our town is off limits for the thieves roaming our city streets.
The second hit on our store happened once again, in the wee hours of the morning. And once again, the burglars covered their faces, wore gloves and when the alarm sounded, they hotfooted out the door.
We’re doing everything we know to do. We’ve installed an alarm system, surveillance cameras, and laminated glass doors. We’ve commissioned iron gates to be built for the front doors.
We are determined to preserve and to protect our property. We love our little shop and our city. We hope and pray there will be an end to the flagrant disregard for other people’s property as we all stand our ground by continuing with our businesses. We cannot let these thugs take over our town!

We’re excited to announce the opening of our 2nd Floor! Vendors have been working hard to curate their booth space for your shopping pleasure. Several dealers are all set up and while we’re not fully rented upstairs, we are ready for business. We can’t wait for you to come in and take a peek… up… the… stairs!
Nine years ago, when the title to this beautiful old building at the corner of Shasta and Oregon Streets became ours, we had no idea how our lives would change. Wandering the downstairs we imagined the possibility of a variety of small shops. Ascending the staircase, a spacious second floor stretched before us. Almost immediately, we pictured an art gallery. We weren’t sure how it would take shape, or when we’d be able to do it, but we were convinced we wanted to do it.
Now, our dream is coming true. The walls have been painted, the lights installed, and artists’ connections are beginning. We’ve opened up the second floor and we know it will fill with amazing vendors and incredible artists!
See you on the 2nd Floor of the Oregon Street Antique Mall!!
Have a fantastic day,
Kate and Phil

Is it time to investigate Roseville Pottery?
I grew up with several pieces of Roseville Pottery around the house. One piece was used as a fruit bowl; another as a decorative piece for the formal dinning table when it was not in use as a dinner table. They were pretty pieces, but no one in the family considered them to be of great value; they were just part of the collection of generational “hand-me-downs” that we kept because people we loved, and who had passed on had lived with them.
Eventually, these pieces made there way to Kathy and I. We liked them because they had “provenance” in my family. Our surprise came when, after years of marriage, we began to look into antique stores for the furnishings of our house and stumbled across some Roseville Pottery pieces. We looked at the prices, and then at each other. We had no idea the value of our little collection!! So, we began to selectively buy some additional pieces.
The history of Roseville Pottery is well documented, so I won’t comment much on that except to say that this company, established in 1890 produced its final designs in 1953. Since then, Roseville Pottery has become very collectible. In the 1970’s there was a resurgence of interest from “baby boomers”, many of whom had undoubtedly seen Roseville Pottery in the homes of their grandparents, or other relatives. Then in the 1990’s early 2000’s there was another boom in the market for Roseville Pottery.
The market for Roseville products has gotten softer since the economic crash of 2008, but is holding steady at this time. If you are interested in this Roseville Pottery, it is a good time to investigate what is available on the market now…while prices are reasonable.
We have several lovely pieces of Roseville Pottery at the Oregon Street Antique Mall….

…that is one of my favorite things about working at the Oregon Street Antique Mall.
This darling little desk speaks to the joy of learning. One of our dealers felt very drawn to it while she was out treasure hunting one day. She purchased it and brought it in to the store to sell.
Our manager, Amanda, strolling through the store, spotted it and thought it looked like something her mother would have painted…sure enough she found her mom’s signature on it!!
The dealer who painted it and the dealer who bought it have been friends for over twenty years…and are both part of our happy family at the Oregon Street Antique Mall.
Yesterday, this sweet piece went to a new home where it will be put to good use by a young home-schooled scholar!
A wonderful gem full of history and memories…and now part of a new journey!
Oregon Street Antique Mall….where history survives and memories abide!!
